Through its investor network, RTC Innovation sourced the investment required for the University of Birmingham’s 3D scanning spin-out, 3D Engine. Working with Alta Innovations, the University of Birmingham’s technology transfer office, RTC Innovation not only helped setup the spinout in late 2015, but also secured an early product order for distribution in China as well as an advance investment for the building of a prototype. The technology will initially be used for foot scanning, creating a 3D image in seconds, accurate to millimetres, that could be used for virtual shoe shopping.
